Developed by Dr Sheavon Lee, our signature B.R.A.I.N approach blends curiosity, story, and play — so children don't just learn science, they live it.
At Active Brain, children don't start Mandarin by memorizing characters or repeating lists of words. Inspired by how children naturally acquire languages, the Mandarin Discovery Method follows a gentle, progressive journey designed by Dr Sheavon Lee.
Children first discover Mandarin through sounds, songs, rhythm and daily expressions — allowing the language to become familiar naturally.
Words are connected with actions and real experiences — eating, washing hands, moving, playing — so meaning is understood through the body, not translation.
Carefully chosen visual materials help children associate sounds, images and Chinese characters step by step.
Original songs and playful activities reinforce vocabulary and make Mandarin part of their everyday life.
Once children are comfortable with Mandarin sounds, they gradually discover Zhuyin — the Taiwanese phonetic system — helping them read and pronounce characters independently.
Children learn best when they experience, explore and enjoy. 🌱
At Active Brain Bordeaux, children learn in a carefully prepared environment designed to feel warm, safe and inspiring. Our small-group workshops take place in a cozy classroom where curiosity, creativity and confidence can grow naturally.

“Every detail of our space is chosen so children can explore freely, think deeply, and feel completely at ease.”
"My daughter came home glowing — literally, from the invisible ink experiment! She hasn't stopped talking about Marie Curie since."
"Finally a camp where my son is excited to wake up. The small groups and the PhD-designed program make a real difference."
"Warm, professional, and inspiring. Sheavon clearly loves what she does and the kids feel it. Highly recommend."
"The bilingual environment is a gift. My twins gained confidence in English while having an absolute blast doing science."

Every child begins life as a little scientist: touching, questioning, experimenting and trying to understand the world around them.
As both a scientist and a mother, I have always been fascinated by this natural curiosity. My mission is not only to teach science, but to create a safe and inspiring environment where children feel free to wonder, experiment, make mistakes and discover their own ideas.
Through my PhD in Physical Chemistry with the European Erasmus Mundus programme (University of Bordeaux & TU Darmstadt) and my years of experience sharing science with children in Taiwan and France, I discovered my true passion: helping young minds grow.
Active Brain was created from this vision: a place where science, creativity and languages come together to nurture curious thinkers and confident explorers.
Here, children don't just learn science — curiosity becomes confidence, ideas become creations, and every discovery becomes a step toward loving learning for life.
Children aged 4 to 10. We split into Kindergarten (4–5) and Primary (6–10) groups so each child learns at the perfect level.
Holiday workshops and private science classes are mainly run in English, with simple French support when needed so children feel comfortable.
Yes — optional late care from 12 pm to 4:30 pm for children attending the workshops.
